Tell us about Scholarship Solutions, and what inspired you to launch the business?
I started Scholarship Solutions because I believe everyone deserves access to a debt-free college education. Growing up, I was fortunate to win over $300,000 in scholarships, which fueled my passion for helping others achieve the same. As the first African American student admitted to UNLV's Doctoral Program in Psychology, I realized the power of guidance and support. My journey took me around the world, speaking and connecting with diverse communities, opening my eyes to the vast potential in each student. Founding my firm allowed me to formalize my commitment to mentoring, ensuring students of all backgrounds can access higher education without the burden of debt.
Looking back, how did landing scholarships shape your career path?
Landing scholarships was truly transformative for my career. Winning over $300,000 in scholarships not only alleviated the financial burden of college but also ignited a passion within me to help others achieve the same. This experience revealed the power of guidance and support, leading me to become the first African American student admitted to UNLV's Doctoral Program in Psychology. Along the way, I realized I wanted to dedicate my life to ensuring students can pursue their dreams without debt. If you could go back, what advice would you give yourself during your scholarship pursuit?
If I could go back, I’d tell my younger self to embrace the journey and trust in the process. I’d remind myself to seek guidance from mentors and never hesitate to ask questions. Building a strong support system is essential—don’t try to do it all alone. I’d also say, “Celebrate each small victory!” Every scholarship you apply for, every essay you write, takes you a step closer to achieving your dreams. Most importantly, believe in your own potential. You’re capable of more than you know, and this pursuit is just the beginning of an extraordinary journey.

When applying for scholarships, a few key documents can make all the difference! First, a polished resume is crucial—it showcases your achievements and experiences. During my scholarship journey, I realized that organization was key to keeping track of deadlines. I relied heavily on a calendar—both digital and physical—to mark every important date. Setting reminders for two weeks, one week, and a day before each deadline was a game-changer. I also created a spreadsheet listing each scholarship, its requirements, and deadlines, which kept everything centralized and easy to monitor. Additionally, I made it a habit to review my schedule weekly, allowing me to stay ahead. Keeping myself accountable and having regular check-ins made it less overwhelming and ensured nothing slipped through the cracks.
